Kate Winslet Wins the Emmy for ‘Mildred Pierce’, Kate Winslet won an Emmy as lead actress in a miniseries or a movie for HBO’s “Mildred Pierce.”

The 35-year-old actress, who is renowned for her gushing speeches, was clearly emotional as she paid tribute to her own mother while accepting the award.

She said: “Mildred Pierce was capable of great acts of love as a mother. It doesn’t matter how old you are or what you do with your life, you will never stop needing your mum. And I will never stop needing mine, so thanks, Mum.”

Her co-star, Guy Pearce, was named outstanding supporting actor in a miniseries or movie. Pearce joked: “I got to have sex with Kate Winslet many many times.”

Winslet was presented with the award by fellow British actor Hugh Laurie.

Emmy Awards 2011 Live Blog with Jane Lynch, ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘Mildred Pierce, Waiting for the Emmy to start. Just posted a story about Alec Baldwin.

We just pubbed a story about the opening skit that, in part, said this: “In the segment that was supposed to open Sunday’s primetime telecast, Mr. Baldwin plays a fictional president of a television studio. The joke that Fox cut involved a bit in which Mr. Baldwin, while on the telephone, asked whether Mr. Murdoch was listening into the call–an allusion to the phone hacking scandal that has plagued News Corp. in recent months. Leonard Nimoy of “Star Trek” replaced Mr. Baldwin in the segment, which will open the show Sunday evening without the joke.”

And we have the first Glee-centric slushie-throwing joke of the night. Cross that off the list.

Unsurprisingly, the ‘Mad Men’ sequence was the best part of Jane Lynch’s opening number. Saves the number.

When I interviewed Jane about hosting the Emmys she said she’d take inspiration from Jimmy Fallon and just try and have fun.

Was that a collective gasp after the Katie Holmes joke? Oh snap.
