Chargers' Antonio Gates uncertain for week 3; WR Malcom Floyd … , The San Diego Chargers are used to playing without some of their top offensive weapons. They had to do it for large chunks of last season, and Philip Rivers still threw for more than 4,700 yards. They may have to use what they learned then this weekend against the Kansas City Chiefs.
After missing practice on Wednesday and Thursday, tight end Antonio Gates attempted to practice Friday, but had to call it quits because of so much pain in his feet. He is listed as questionable on the injury report and will be a game-time decision.
Meanwhile, wide receiver Malcom Floyd finished off a week with no practice today because of his groin injury. He is listed as doubtful.
No. 1 WR Vincent Jackson and RB Mike Tolbert are also on the injury report, but they practiced Friday and are only listed as probable.
Fantasy Analysis:
This is the risk you took when you drafted Gates. He’s never going to be fully healthy; his feet will always cause problems for him. It comes down to how well he can manage the pain. Throughout his career, he’s done a great job at it, but he missed half of last season because of foot injuries, so there’s definitely reason to worry right now. The Chargers play a 4:05 p.m. Eastern Time game, so plan accordingly. If Gates is active, you have to start him against the Chiefs unless you have another top-5 option.
With Floyd likely unavailable, Patrick Crayton will get increased looks, but I don’t think he’s worth your time. It sure looks like this won’t be the only game Floyd misses.
