Rahul Repeats Beggar Remark In UP,
As the battle for Uttar Pradesh hots up, Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi has made it clear that he would not shy away from a controversy and is prepared to sweat it out in the Hindi heartland.
Not cowed down by criticism over his earlier remarks that people from Uttar Pradesh are forced to go and beg outside the state, Congress General Secretary repeated the same on Tuesday in Bara Banki.
"If you look at the plight of the people from UP and Bihar, the way they have to travel and the kind of atrocities they face, you know it is not a healthy sign. It is a very very demeaning position that they are put under because they cannot stay back at home. There is no work, there is no help, there is no security," he said.
However, the opposition parties came down heavily on Rahul, with BSP saying that people migrated for better prospects.
Today, Sharad Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party or NCP, which allies with the Congress to form the government in Maharashtra and at the Centre, suggested that Mr Gandhi's choice of words was unfortunate.
