Kate Winslet Scores Trophy For Mildred Pierce; Emmy Award, Kate Winslet was stunning in a red Elie Saab gown that accentuated the actress’ curvaceous figure at the 2011 Emmy Awards in Los Angeles at the Nokia Theater. Kate was one of many starlets who opted for red and for Kate it brought good tidings. Winslet took home the trophy for Outstanding Lead Actress for her role in the miniseries Mildred Pierce.

Kate said in her acceptance speech,

“Mildred Pierce was capable of great acts of love as a mother. It doesn’t matter how old you are or what you do with your life, you will never stop needing your mum. And I will never stop needing mine, so thanks mum.”

How sweet…. AP has gathered the complete list of the Emmy award winners.

Modern Family was the clear favorite of the evening taking home four trophies, including Supporting Actor and Actress in a comedy series. The British miniseries Downtown Abbey also scored four wins including Best Miniseries or Movie and a Supporting Actress. See the full list for 2011 Emmy Award Winners.

Kate Winslet Wins the Emmy for ‘Mildred Pierce’, Kate Winslet won an Emmy as lead actress in a miniseries or a movie for HBO’s “Mildred Pierce.”

The 35-year-old actress, who is renowned for her gushing speeches, was clearly emotional as she paid tribute to her own mother while accepting the award.

She said: “Mildred Pierce was capable of great acts of love as a mother. It doesn’t matter how old you are or what you do with your life, you will never stop needing your mum. And I will never stop needing mine, so thanks, Mum.”

Her co-star, Guy Pearce, was named outstanding supporting actor in a miniseries or movie. Pearce joked: “I got to have sex with Kate Winslet many many times.”

Winslet was presented with the award by fellow British actor Hugh Laurie.

Emmy Awards 2011 Live Blog with Jane Lynch, ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘Mildred Pierce, Waiting for the Emmy to start. Just posted a story about Alec Baldwin.

We just pubbed a story about the opening skit that, in part, said this: “In the segment that was supposed to open Sunday’s primetime telecast, Mr. Baldwin plays a fictional president of a television studio. The joke that Fox cut involved a bit in which Mr. Baldwin, while on the telephone, asked whether Mr. Murdoch was listening into the call–an allusion to the phone hacking scandal that has plagued News Corp. in recent months. Leonard Nimoy of “Star Trek” replaced Mr. Baldwin in the segment, which will open the show Sunday evening without the joke.”

And we have the first Glee-centric slushie-throwing joke of the night. Cross that off the list.

Unsurprisingly, the ‘Mad Men’ sequence was the best part of Jane Lynch’s opening number. Saves the number.

When I interviewed Jane about hosting the Emmys she said she’d take inspiration from Jimmy Fallon and just try and have fun.

Was that a collective gasp after the Katie Holmes joke? Oh snap.

Emmy fashions lean toward bright colors, simple lines, Playing up one of the most popular colors of the fall season, the red carpet was awash in a variety of crimson and scarlet dresses at the Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday.

“One of fall’s hottest trend colors is crimson, and the stars didn’t miss a beat on the Emmy’s red carpet this year,” said style expert Sam Saboura, citing Lea Michele, Kate Winslet, Nina Dobrev, Kerry Washington and Adrianne Palicki among the many stars wearing the bold color.

Even actor Allan Cumming opted for the hue, wearing red pants with his tuxedo jacket.

Additionally, bright blues and aquas — showcased during this past week’s Fashion Week as colors to wear next spring — showed up on stars like Cobie Smulders, Claire Danes and Amy Poehler.

“Sleeves were everywhere,” observed fashion watcher Shara Koplowitz. “Actresses wore sleeves that best accentuated their arms.”

That meant short sleeves on Michele, Poehler and Gwyneth Paltrow, capped sleeves on Winslet and Christine Baranski, and long sleeves on Laura Linney, Melissa McCarthy, Loretta Devine, Jayma Mays and Mayim Bialik.

For Bialik, wearing long sleeves was not a fashion choice, but a religious one.
